Consultant for Revision of the ACE Toolkit

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks an experienced consultant to lead the revision of the Alternative Care in Emergencies (ACE) Toolkit. This remote, contract‑based assignment will support the IRC and its partners in updating guidance for child protection in humanitarian settings.

Key responsibilities

• Review the existing 2013 ACE Toolkit and identify gaps against current standards.
• Collaborate with the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and the Unaccompanied and Separated Children Task Force to integrate latest guidance.
• Draft revised sections, incorporate evidence‑based practices, and ensure alignment with inter‑agency minimum standards.
• Facilitate virtual workshops with stakeholders to gather feedback and achieve consensus.
• Deliver a final, user‑friendly toolkit ready for global dissemination by September 2026.

Required profile

• Proven experience in child protection, humanitarian response, or related policy development.
• Familiarity with the ACE Toolkit, UASC frameworks, and inter‑agency coordination.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with ability to synthesize technical material for diverse audiences.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently in a remote setting.

Required skills

• Knowledge of international child protection standards and guidelines.
• Experience drafting technical guidance documents.
• Proficiency in virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams, collaborative document platforms).
