Platform Engineer – Big Data Services

About the role

As a Platform Engineer you will design, implement and operate the Big Data services (Kafka, Cassandra, Spark) that power SAP’s enterprise‑scale cloud solutions on the SAP Business Technology Platform.

Key responsibilities

• Build and automate provisioning, configuration and lifecycle operations for Big Data components ensuring scalable and repeatable deployment workflows.
• Design cloud‑agnostic, resilient services that run across major hyperscale clouds such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba Cloud and SAP Cloud.
• Enhance Kubernetes platform capabilities, including runtime optimization and automated scaling.
• Apply SRE practices, define SLIs/SLOs and support on‑call duties for globally distributed services.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of professional experience in cloud computing, distributed systems or platform engineering.
• Background in Computer Science, engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, proactive mindset and ability to work autonomously.
• Clear communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Required skills

• Kafka, Cassandra, Apache Spark
• Kubernetes, container runtimes, Linux systems engineering
• Go or Python programming
• Experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (OpenStack a plus)
