Principal Overhead Line Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer to lead the design and delivery of major transmission and distribution projects worldwide. Based in Sofia, you will work within the Energy unit’s Transmission & Distribution division, providing expert engineering guidance to multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert OHL engineering advice and input across multiple projects.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct feasibility studies, produce plan and profile drawings, perform sag‑tension analysis, and develop OHL routing and technical reports.
• Prepare and review specifications and deliver projects in line with client requirements and industry best practice.
• Chair project meetings, communicate progress to stakeholders, and produce comprehensive reports.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Extensive experience in an OHL engineering environment, covering scheme development and project/design delivery.
• Strong knowledge of OHL standards and codes of practice.
• Proficiency with engineering design software for OHL projects.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and work collaboratively with internal and external clients.
