Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake & Power BI

About the role

EC Markets, an FCA-regulated FX and CFD brokerage, is expanding its Sofia Data Platform team and is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the evolution of its Snowflake-based Data Lakehouse. The role builds a modern data ecosystem supporting advanced analytics, regulatory reporting and decision-making, and reports to the Head of Tech.

Key responsibilities

• Own a Snowflake-centric Data Lakehouse integrating structured, semi-structured and unstructured data
• Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines ingesting data from trading, CRM, finance and risk systems and external APIs
• Design data models, schemas and transformation frameworks for analytical and regulatory use cases
• Build semantic models on Snowflake (DirectQuery and Import) using DAX, calculation groups, RLS/OLS and incremental refresh
• Develop operational reports, dashboards and extracts for Trading, Finance, Marketing, Compliance and Operations
• Maintain data integrity, privacy and security aligned with FCA and GDPR, and optimise query performance and storage
• Work with business units to turn data requirements into technical solutions

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 5-8 years of hands-on experience in data engineering and/or analytics engineering
• Experience in financial services, trading or fintech environments
• Proven experience designing and delivering a DWH or Delta Lakehouse using Snowflake
• At least 2 years writing dbt models in production
• At least 3 years building production Power BI on enterprise warehouses

Required skills

• Expert SQL and data modelling (star/snowflake schemas, dimensional modelling)
• dbt (sources, snapshots, tests, macros, exposures, medallion pattern)
• Expert DAX, Power Query / M, Tabular Editor and DAX Studio
• Understanding of Snowflake warehouse sizing, clustering and query profiles
• Nice to have: Python, AWS (ECS, S3, IAM), Terraform, Git / GitHub Actions, Microsoft Fabric, AI-on-warehouse patterns
