Senior Compliance Officer / Senior In-House Legal Counsel

About the role

emerchantpay is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer / Senior In-House Legal Counsel to lead the development, implementation and oversight of compliance policies across its global payment platform. The role serves as the primary legal and regulatory point of contact, ensuring the company’s products and services meet all applicable standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor developments in e‑commerce, payments and card‑scheme regulations and advise the business.
• Draft, review and negotiate agreements, internal policies and other legal documents.
• Provide compliance guidance for all company offerings and identify resources needed to meet regulatory obligations.
• Implement remedial measures for regulatory breaches and manage non‑compliance risks.
• Research jurisdictions with regulatory authority and assess impact of applicable rules.
• Conduct periodic training on regulatory and legislative updates.
• Lead the periodic compliance monitoring process, from planning to implementation.
• Support managers in establishing internal procedures and act as main liaison with supervisory authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in e‑commerce regulatory compliance or in‑house legal counsel roles.
• In‑depth knowledge of UK and EU legislation, FCA requirements and major card‑scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard, SEPA, American Express, UnionPay, Discover).
• English proficiency at C1 level or higher.
• Strong organisational, analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high integrity.
