Hardware Design Engineer (Electric Drives)

About the role

Festo is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer to develop electric drives (power and signal electronics) up to 12 kW. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, firmware developers, and test teams to bring hardware concepts from specification to series production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop analog and digital hardware boards for electric drives.
• Supervise PCB layout, ensuring EMC‑compliant designs and series‑production readiness.
• Build prototypes, set up test rigs, and execute functional testing.
• Create and support testing plans for drive systems.
• Maintain existing product portfolio to guarantee long‑term availability, cost‑effectiveness, quality, and producibility.
• Monitor semiconductor market trends and contribute to project, FMEA, and other development committees.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of practical PCB design experience.
• Experience with control‑system engineering and analog electronics.
• Strong decision‑making ability in a dynamic environment.
• Goal‑oriented, team‑player attitude with creativity and continuous‑improvement mindset.

Required skills

• PCB design (Cadence Allegro preferred)
• MS Office proficiency
• Experience with SAP and Windchill (advantage)
• EMC, CE and UL compliant design knowledge
• Familiarity with IEC 61800‑5 drive standards
• Industrial Ethernet interfaces
• Power electronics up to 12 kW
