R&D Senior Electrical Engineer - OLTC & DT Products

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a R&D Senior Electrical Engineer in Sofia to lead the development of electronic, control and monitoring solutions for On-Load Tap Changers (OLTCs) and Distribution Transformer (DT) products. You will act as the internal subject matter expert for electronic systems, motor drives, monitoring equipment and control solutions, and provide technical leadership for outsourced development projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical requirements, specifications, architectures and acceptance criteria for external development partners, and lead technical risk assessments, FMEA activities, design reviews and validation.
• Ensure compliance with standards, customer requirements, cybersecurity requirements and Hitachi Energy development processes.
• Participate in concept studies, technology roadmaps and product strategy for digitalization, monitoring, diagnostics and intelligent control systems.
• Support verification and validation, including laboratory testing, field testing, certification and troubleshooting.
• Mentor engineers, monitor technology trends in power electronics and industrial drives, and contribute to intellectual property and innovation initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Control Systems, Embedded Systems or a related field.
• Proven experience developing, integrating or supporting electronic systems, motor drives, control systems, monitoring equipment or industrial automation solutions.
• Demonstrated experience managing or technically leading external suppliers, engineering partners or outsourced development projects.
• Experience in new product development, technology development or product enhancement projects.
• Preferred: experience with OLTCs, distribution transformers, transformer accessories, power transmission and distribution equipment, and familiarity with Modbus, IEC 61850, CAN, Ethernet/IP.
