R&D Senior Project Manager

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for an R&D Senior Project Manager in Sofia to lead product development projects for electro-mechanical products and systems. You will drive projects from concept through launch, balancing scope, schedule, cost, quality and risk, and work closely with engineering, product management, manufacturing and leadership teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead product technology and development projects using stage-gate and waterfall processes, keeping projects aligned with business strategy, customer needs and technology roadmaps.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitate decisions across engineering, product management, operations, quality, sourcing, manufacturing and service teams, and present technical and business topics to senior management.
• Develop project business cases with Global Product Managers, create and manage budgets, and monitor expenditure and financial performance.
• Plan and execute projects: develop plans, schedules, work breakdown structures and deliverables, coordinate resources, track progress and drive corrective actions.
• Manage risk, including HSE assessments, IP risk analysis and freedom-to-operate evaluations, and escalate risks proactively.
• Ensure compliance with R&D processes, development gates and quality requirements, support FMEA, design and technical reviews, validation and verification planning, and maintain project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration or a related field.
• Experience leading cross-functional product development projects in industrial, electromechanical, engineering, manufacturing or related environments.
• Familiarity with stage-gate, waterfall or equivalent project development methodologies.
• Strong project planning, leadership, communication and organisational skills, and excellent written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications

• PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience leading R&D, new product development or technology development projects.
• Experience in the power, energy, industrial equipment, electromechanical or manufacturing sectors.
• Familiarity with PLM systems and project portfolio management tools, and experience with global or distributed teams.
