Senior Data Platform Engineer (Kafka & Cloudera)

About the role

A1 Competence Delivery Center, part of A1's telecommunications business, is looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer (Kafka & Cloudera) in Sofia. As a Technical Steward of the Cloudera and Kafka streaming platforms, you ensure operational excellence, innovation and strong collaboration across teams, keeping the platform reliable, secure and well governed.

Key responsibilities

• Own the health, security, scalability, licensing and compliance of the Cloudera and streaming ecosystem
• Drive technical best practices, efficient processes and high-quality documentation standards
• Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders and management as a key coordination point
• Identify improvements, champion innovation and implement enhancements that increase efficiency and business impact
• Act as custodian of the platform, responsible for its performance, reliability and user satisfaction throughout the lifecycle

Required profile

• More than 5 years of experience in a similar position
• Strong experience with the Hadoop stack (Cloudera: HDFS, Hive, Impala, Ranger, Spark, YARN)
• Experience managing the data streaming stack (Kafka, Kafka Connect, connectors, Flink Schema Registry)
• Track record of zero-downtime upgrades, migrations, lifecycle and license management
• Experience maintaining and optimizing custom Spark solutions
• Proficiency with CVE handling, Linux administration and Bash scripting
• Programming in Java, Python or Go is a plus
• Excellent collaboration skills and strong written and spoken English

• Kubernetes and container technologies
• Monitoring and observability tools such as Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk
• Nice to have: automation and IaC (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
