Medical Director – Rheumatology

About the role

ICON is seeking a Medical Director to lead rheumatology initiatives within its Central Review Services team. You will guide strategic direction, support client deliverables, and ensure high‑quality data review for lupus and other autoimmune trials.

Key responsibilities

• Provide medical and scientific guidance on protocol development, amendment, and efficacy assessments.
• Perform BILAG and MDAAT grading, review data for concordance, and conduct site start‑up activities.
• Train study teams on protocol‑specific efficacy tools and support business development efforts.
• Interact with clients, participate in meetings, and contribute to new business opportunities.

Required profile

• Medical Degree (MD) with rheumatology fellowship and board certification; expertise in SLE preferred.
• Extensive experience in global clinical trials and CRO/biotech/pharma project leadership.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to travel up to 10%.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic data capture systems (RAVE, eLAS preferred).
• Knowledge of clinical data management systems and standard office software (Windows, MS Office).
